I re-read the last post and got a flashback to a great MASH ep in which Frank and Hot Lips visits a local craftsman. The dialogue goes something like this: (actually I am rather sure that it goes exactly like this, even it if were years since I had my last MASH hangup)
-(Frank to the Craftsman): One of our sergeants told us you do wood carvings.
-(Craftsman): Ahh, sergeant Kowalski, I make a naked lady radiator cap for his fathers Crystler.
-(Frank to Hot Lips): Now we are getting somewhere, (turns to the Craftsman) So you do carve?
-(Craftsman): Come, I'll show you. (holds up a piece of wood and says proudly) Used to be round.
-(Frank): It looks like a two by four.
-(Craftsman): Thank you!
Brilliant. I just love it!

Significant figures
I have a problem with the tv show Biggest looser. They calculate the weight loss for the contestants as a percentage based on measurements in whole pounds. So a person that has gone from 310 to 305 pounds has lost 5 pounds => 5/310=1.61%. And then they use this number to eliminate people. It is just plain wrong to get a number with three significant figures from a division that contains a number with only one significant figure. The true answer to the above example should hence be 2%. They really ought to buy a more precise scale and learn some maths.

Ice road truckers - bah
Driving big rigs on an ice road, whats the thrill in that? Now, driving mopeds on un-plowed icy roads, in -16°C, for three hours, delivering mail - there is a show that I would watch! (Or rather, I would very much like to watch it from the comfort of my couch, under a blanket, instead of experiencing it in real life.)

tv
I can watch almost anything on TV. As I said earlier I have even found myself looking at Ellen. But there is one show that I just can't bring myself to watch, and that is 'scarred' on mtv. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the program, well, it shows real home made films of (mostly) guys getting hurt. And it is not like 'jackass' where that is the plan all along, they just get hurt doing something else - like doing tricks with their skateboard/bike/roller blades. And they show how it looks when, e.g., a leg breaks - in slow motion. They also show how it looks afterwords, when they are in the hospital all bruised up, and the x-rays displaying shattered bone.
To watch the show is like seeing a guy getting kicked in the groin - you just know how fucking painful it is so you curl up a bit, distorts your face and pull a breath of air in through your clenched teeth making that 'iiithh' sound. It is just all to real and I can't watch.

I was just about
I was just about to write to the network companies to say that at this hour (1900) there is really nothing that appeals to me on TV. Hence the lucrative advertising audience where I fit in is up for the grabbing. But then I noticed that 'How I met your mother' is on so I didn't write them and now I am sitting happy in the sofa with Tage on my chest, watching TV and writing this.

Getting home early
Since the work load is low this week I have been coming home early, soon after lunch, every day. This means that I have had the great opportunity to catch Highlander on channel six. I gather I liked it when it originally aired cause of the martial arts scenes, I mean, who does not enjoy a good sword fight? I also gather my mom liked it cause of the sexy mr MacLeod. Unfortunately the series has not aged with style. A series that I would like to see instead is KungFu starring mr Chinaman himself, David Carradine. It was supposed to be Bruce Lee, but they gave the role to David for some odd reason. (I actually downloaded a couple of episodes of the show some time ago and tried to watch, but it was quite hard, the tempo is so low that you fall asleep even if you are well rested. But I would still like to see it on air.)

Aaah
Finally a nice and slow day in a week that otherwise has been full of long, stressful days. And on top of that, I made it home just before the rain came to town. Now I will spend the afternoon watching tv shows, starting with the latest episode of weeds. Speaking of tv shows, I caught the first ep. of the new series Generation Kill last night. It is a really well written mini series that is based on what a Rolling stones reporter experienced in the beginning of the Irak invasion. Alexander Skarsgård has a lead role and manages to portray an American youth quite well. The only thing that bothered me in this first episode was the trailer trash cliché guy. (Damn, its raining cats and dogs now, I sure was lucky to get home before this.) (By the way, do anybody know the rules on how to punctuate properly when using parenthesis like I do now? I always get confused...) Anyhow, I just thought it was unnecessary to make it so fucking obvious that he was a red neck racist son of a bitch. Other than that, I really recommend the show. (An extra plus for the ladies: There is plenty of nude/semi-nude hot well-trained sweaty young hunks to rest your eyes at.)
